After trying the apple cider vinegar smoothie with actual mangoes (with skin), I decided to get rid of the rest of my bananas today by making more smoothies. A reminder that my blender cannot make all of this smoothie in one go, which is why I blend "slowly" to chop up the ingredients, then pour half into a smoothie bottle, blend the remainder until smooth, dump that into a second bottle, then blend the contents of the first bottle. I know it sounds like a lot, but I tend to make at least 48 ounces of smoothie every time I break out the blender.

Apple Cider Vinegar Smoothie Recipe: Apple Cider Vinegar, Bananas, Apple Juice, and Mango Juice

by Maple Summers 3 years ago
When I say juice, I mean something like Juicy Juice. Not a smoothie. Smoothies are more sustaining because they have pulp and flesh in them. There is nothing wrong with doing smoothie fasts. They are actually a good way to ease yourself into water fasting if you need a bit of a confidence booster before giving up food entirely. Anyways, juice fasting can also be a less harsh way to detox the body as juice is still filled with plenty of nutrients for the body to digest, so you won't feel the "toxins dump" as much as you would during a water fast (if you're new to fasting).

What to Expect on Day One of a Juice Fast

by Maple Summers 4 years ago
You may have attempted to go cold turkey, so to speak, from food and dove feet first into a water fast. The first few hours, you may have thought to yourself that you felt fine, felt amazing,  actually, and really thought that you would survive those measly few hours without eating. And maybe you did...but maybe you didn't. Maybe you started salivating like a wild beast as the smell of freshly baked éclairs or jalapeño cheddar bagels wafted through your open New York City window and knew that you would die if you didn't get one... or both. You definitely have to have both now and a 2-liter sprite to wash the stickiness of the chocolate and sun-dried tomato cream cheese from your traitorous throat.

Though circles and squares have very little to do with fasting outside of my metaphor, the belief that I hold in one of the benefits of fasting is that it not only eats away the physical toxins that are poisoning your body, but that it feeds on the emotional and mental poisons that have been ruining your spirit and aura, and damaging your mind.

The Struggle of Beginning Fasting: Understanding the Side Effects

by Maple Summers 4 years ago
You feel fine...at first. If you're lucky. You're feeling on top of the world and like you can handle anything. You're thinking to yourself, "This is not so bad. I can do this every day...well, I could, if I didn't like eating so much." And you're right, you could do it every day for awhile... because the average person can live without food for about a month. You're feeling like you could be one of the people strong enough to do that...until 5 o'clock rolls around and your stomach bottoms out and there's nothing but water in your entire digestive system. Digestion can be such a slow process. Especially if you're really into carbs and fried foods the way most people are, and cheese. These sorts of things stick to your insides, making your body work extra hard to digest them. So, unless you have a high metabolism, it may take about 12 hours before your body is even aware that you're fasting.

How Day One of Water Fasting Feels to Someone With Poor Eating Habits

They say that every person that you sleep with, is another person you share energy with, but what happens when someone is poison? Should you just allow this toxin to continue to cloud your spirit for the rest of eternity?

I saw this post that was saying that people need to stop holding on to what has hurt them, that true forgiveness means you are done being angry, and that anger somehow poisons your own soul. But I don't believe that forgiveness is the only path to letting go. Indeed, plenty of people do not deserve the blessing of my forgiveness, and did not deserve it the first hundred times I bestowed it upon them. 3

A few weeks ago, a friend and I uprooted the grass on this overgrown, raised, garden bed on the side of the house I currently reside in, replaced the wood sidings, picked up several bags of well-draining soil, a hoe, and some mums, and transformed the little flower bed. But now, summer has gone and autumn is upon us with winter quickly approaching and I have been throwing every skin or peel from every fruit or vegetable I've eaten into homemade composting buckets. Then the bright idea popped into my head to use the entire garden bed as composting soil since I can't grow anything in it during the winter. 4

Gyms, no. Surely, we can do better than that. And we can! But let's start with the more obvious stuff. You can stay in a hotel or hostel with a gym and pool, or even be luxurious with a sauna or steam room, but why not get outisde of your living quarters and see what the world has to offer? 5

As it seems to be her new hobby of thrusting things on me without warning whenever I go home to visit my parents, my mother did so again by surprising me with some avocados. I do say "surprise" because, I have never known her to eat avocados and I usually have to force them upon her by sliding them into smoothies or meals whenever I come around. So, I definitely did not have any intentions on cooking when I came to visit for the weekend. 6

One of my fitness goals for 2017 was finally being able to do a forearm stand. I wasn't being too ambitious. Being able to do a forearm stand while supporting my head was something I'd never been able to do even when I was at my fittest in high school dancing 8+ hours every week. This told me that whatever I'd done in the past had not truly helped me with my forearm stand, which is only partially upper body strength, but, from what I've experienced, is mostly abdominal strength and balance. Abdominal strength has never been one of my strong points, and if you caught my other post, Abdominal Strength: Thoughts From a Girl Who Has Always Been Killed By Crunches, then you know that abs and I have never been close. 7
